Pushing on for another 1.2 miles to reach Lake Haiyaha (pictured), which is fed by glaciers high in the mountains (top-left).
Additional trails continue up to even more lakes -- but I've hiked 5.5 miles and more than 1000 feet gain in elevation in 4.5 hours -- which is plenty for the first day here.

There is wildlife everywhere in the park, like this yellow-bellied marmot surveying the landscape during the hike down. Dinner in town tonight as I look forward to another day of hiking tomorrow.

New this year, I am carrying a "FitBit" (step counter) and will include the hiking and end-of-day steps here (both for fun, and to help gauge the hike distances (steps) and elevations (floors). -DL

< Fitbit on hike: 17000 steps, 123 floors | Full day total: 22000 steps, 126 floors >
[as calibrated here, 1 floor = about 12 feet elevation gain, 2700 steps = about 1 mile]
