Along the trail, there are mud pools with boiling hot water and steam. It's very hard to take a picture here without gnats getting into the camera lens -- and they don't seem to mind the steam (they might be enjoying it, actually).


Looking up the hillside, I see steam venting from cracks in the landscape.


As the trail gains elevation, the scenery improves, and sheep are grazing on the grassy hills (look closely).
