Nearing the lake, we transfer to canoes, and paddle through a bit more flooded forest to reach Lake Sandoval.

Lake Sandoval is large, and part of an even larger national reserve (where some native tribes still live). We paddle around the lake, moving closer to the shoreline to spot birds and animals.

Tall palms and other trees encircle the lake, and our guides point out animals hidden in the vegetation.
