At these heights, the trees are reduced to short shrubs, and eventually as the climb continues, even these will disappear -- unable to survive the intense ultraviolet light and perpetual cold temperatures here in the 'Alpine Zone'. But the short trees and elevation do provide some amazing views.


As the trail climbs, you can see in all directions -- and it seems like the view you might get from an airplane.


The other day, I looked up at mountains towering above. Today, I am at eye-level with most.
