Sept 19; Another beautiful day -- and another hike. Today, I've selected Deer Mountain, just north of Beaver Meadows in the park. This moderate (somewhat strenuous) 6.2 mile hike goes from 8900 to 10000 feet in about 4 hours and has good views right from the start.

I really enjoy this trail as it weaves in and out of the forest -- rewarding hikers with great views every time you peek out between the trees at the many overlooks. My long (9-day) stay here gave me opportunities to explore many of the trails -- but if you only have a few days and a limited number of hikes -- this should be one of them.
